Located in a corner opposite Armadale train station in a quiet street. The cafe itself is anything but. On a cold Sunday lunchtime, the place is packed with many put on a waiting list of at least 15 or more minutes. It was worth the wait. The food and coffee were excellent, good service, reasonably priced, bug servings, beautifully presented. Rustic interior, pretty cramped so forget the prams. Narrow seatings and plenty of natural light.
The Coin Laundry is off the beaten track in Armadale and provides a perfect little oasis to escape the stresses of High St. shopping. It's surrounded by stylish houses on leafy, surburban streets, so the contrast when you enter the buzzing (read 'noisy'!) corner shop is striking. I'd expect to find this place in Richmond, Collingwood or Abbottsford, with it's warehouse feel and funky decor, complete with black and white retro photos of various laundromat scenes. The staff were lively, friendly and attentive.
I had the relatively safe option of soft poached eggs on toast with mushies and bacon. Hard to get wrong and I wasn't disappointed. My partner ate the porridge and enjoyed it. The freshly squeezed OJ was very fresh and the coffee excellent. Looking forward to another visit when I think I'll try the corn and manchego fritters, or some of the fresh muffins and cakes at the front counter.
What a great find this is - located in the back streets of Armadale. Everything is just right: big windows, cool dcor, great (good looking!) staff, fantastic food and respectable prices.
I went with a girlfriend and it was all I could do to stop myself eating her dish That was the smoked ocean trout with potato croquettes, perfectly poached egg, spinach and beetroot relish ($17)
I had the corn and manchego cheese fritters with a delicious tomato and cucumber salsa topped with rocket and creme fraiche ($17) the coffee was great too.
Specials this week: Flip Shelton muesli with blueberry compote. Confit duck leg with chermoula, eggplant and pomegranate salad. Green lentil soup with herbed yoghurt and grilled flatbread..... I could go on....
You must try this fantastic spot, but dont bring your washing.
