My pistachio gelato was so fresh and creamy and at the same time crunchy and full of nuts. Even better than the one I had in Italy on my last trip. Apparently it is made in store, where they roast it too. The scoops are huge too and really well priced. My husband had the mango and watermelon which he loved. Nothing better than visiting this great store for great gelato and service to match on a hot summers day. You won't be disappointed.
The gelato sign grabbed my attention on a hot summer's day, but the service I got was pretty subdued from two teenagers. Barely any acknowledgement and despite just ordering two cones they managed to short change me. The flavour of lemon gelato was tangy and refreshing and the blood orange sorbet was quite nice too. Mango was ok, but I've had better. They had a fairly good selection including watermelon, passionfruit, green apple, as well as the heavier flavours such as coffee, hazelnut, cookies and cream, bounty, etc.
When you find good gelato it's too easy to keep coming back. You have to try all the flavours right? Cones makes it far too easy to return. Located on Hawthorne's trendy Glenferrie Rd, lies Cones: the answer to any ice-cream lover's dream. With an ever-changing selection of flavours this is definitely the place to be on a hot day; sometimes it's so busy there's a queue just to get in the door. The choc-ripple gelato is amazing, and so far Cones is the only place I've found it. While the gelato is a little on the expensive side, I highly recommend treating yourself from time to time - it's well worth it. They also do a 'mum's scoop' which is the smallest size and definitely the equivalent of a normal single scoop - don't be fooled by the size of the cup because the ice-cream gets PILED high! Cones also do shakes but I'd suggest sticking to the gelato unless you like your shakes made from scoop ice-cream and you know what flavours to pick.
