Conservatory
With soaring ceilings and views over the river to the CBD, Conservatory is an elegant and relaxed place to dine at any time of day. Enjoy a wide range of tasty and creative buffet dishes, offering the best of Eastern and Western cuisine. Seafood is a highlight; with a mountain of fresh prawns, daily fish dishes and freshly-shucked oysters. For dessert there's a wide range of sweet treats, including Conservatory's famous chocolate fountain. An a la carte menu is also available - and don't miss Tiffin Afternoon Tea, a deliciously decadent way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
This is your standard high quality buffet. You pay a premium for it but the selection of food is impressive. One of my favourite is the peaking duck and the roast hand made and served by the chef. The seafood section itself is worth going for. Not to mention the dessert stand with the decadent chocolate fondue, perfect to end the whole buffet experience. However, we came a bit later, didn't expect that staff started packing up and throwing away the food in the bin. Didn't really have the time to continue to go back and get more food. Tip, make sure you go early to maximise the whole buffet experience!
Conservatory itself is an impressive place, especialy if you love a lot of choice and buffets. Located in the nicer end of the Crown complex, the approach sets the scene well for the very impressive dining hall. Service is generally very good, although as always with Crown a touch impersonal and detached. The buffet is interesting - if you are looking for a really good seafood buffet then this is for you. The prawns were superb, almost as fresh as ones I have caught and freshly cooked. Oysters also were incredibly fresh, and alongside this there was an impressive selection of different fish and crustaceans. If seafood is your thing, this is your place. However, if not then you might have trouble finding your happy place here.
As I have food intolerance's, I found that it was not the best value for money for me personally. The chef's in the kitchen were very friendly and happy to answer any questions I had in regard to the food.
$45 for lunch is more than reasonable if you are able to eat all of the food available; not sure that I would pay any more than this though (weekends/dinner) if it is the same/similar selection of food. I didn't have the intolerances that I do, it would have given them at least 4 stars; my partner loved it.
