Corowa Whisky and Chocolate

Whisky and Chocolate, What a Match! Heaven on Earth.

Completed in the 1920's and a huge enterprise until its closure in the 1970's the Corowa Flour Mill was a vital part of the local economy. After closure, the flour mill lay abandoned for almost 40 years becoming a haven for vandals and vermin. Eventual owners, the Corowa Shire Council, following inspection of the Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory sold the land and buildings to the Directors of that company for the sum of $1.00. It was the Council's wish that something be done to arrest the declining state of this magnificent heritage building.

Since September 2009 the new company known as Corowa Whisky and Chocolate has been open for business and it is gratifying to see visitor numbers increasing week by week.

A confectionary sales area has been established in the main brick building where visitors can gaze at the 20 meter high roof surrounded by walls that are solid brick and half a meter thick. A Caf? serving the finest coffees, hot chocolate, milkshakes and light meals is just through the first door.

The original engine room that once housed a huge electric motor is now a place where kids and adults alike can make chocolate freckles.

This year we hope one of the adjacent sheds will be transformed into a gift shop offering those "hard to get" sorts of thingees. It's also hoped that later on in 2012 a start can be made in transforming part of the property into a whisky tavern from where will be served a range of some of the world's best and rarest whiskies. It is also from here that we hope to establish Australia's first organic whisky distillery.

You are invited to come and experience the old flour mill, taste and purchase from our famous chocolate and licorice range. Check out our plans and aspirations for whisky or just come and relax and enjoy the ambience and feel of an essential part of Corowa's

Fabulous location in the imposing old flour mill. Despite the name, I don't believe there is any whisky available (yet!). The chocolate shop is located in an area just before you get into the café area and somehow I walked past without even noticing it! This chocolate shop area could be better laid out as it can get a bit congested even with just a few customers at the counter. We bought some dark chocolate almond and cranberry rocky road, although looking at the label, it doesn't appear to be made on the premises, but regardless, it was delicious! The cafe area has a lovely rustic decor and the coffees are ok - the cups are huge (not much size difference to a mug!) but the coffee could have been made stronger, but there was a little bonus on the saucer in the form of a yummy piece of chocolate coated licorice.
