Crown Hotel
The Crown Hotel is an institution in Surry Hills. Having benefited from a makeover, you can opt to sit downstairs in the bright Players bar, with its TAB facilities and televised sport. Alternatively, you can head upstairs to the Dome nightclub, a popular spot that brings patrons from all over Sydney. The décor is suggestive of opulence with the rich colours, French chandeliers, Renaissance mural and gold ceiling. Meanwhile, a range of local and imported beers are on tap, along with cocktails, spirits and wines.

I would suggest that this pub is pretty old-school, but more in the way that the only sections here seem to be a pokies room and a sports bar. It really isn’t one of those pubs where you would go to have afterwork drinks, but rather come here to flutter on the horses or get sucked into to the pokies. I didn’t really have a bad time here, and the bar tender was pretty cool. However, they really don’t have a huge selection of beers, and it really isn’t a place to simply go and hang out at either.
I'm leaning towards a bad rather than "absolutely beautiful" (hellothere only 4 reviews). I like it as it's not too busy, has a gambling facility and more then enough bar staff on hand, whether that be a weekday after work or on the weekend. I found the staff to be extremely friendly and know what to get me on the waters politely.
Prices are normal/average fair for a pub in the city. Normal pokie room and though I haven't stayed in the Hotel overnight (just the gutter around the corner, plenty of times) I think the bigger function rooms are nice, just not amazing though.
