Cuckoo Callay

The bacon mac daddy Was very satisfying. The macaroni has this enhanced satisfying flavour to it and I was impressed.
The other dish I believe was called chocolate salty balls which is french toast. Initially I thought this was great but the sour custard taste was too strong and I didn't like it afterwards my friend tells me it's better at its Surry hills counterpart
The place is small and after reading sum reviews I can see why they say service isn't great! They seem run off there feet! Hire more staff!

One of my favourite cafes in Sydney and now they have two locations, the OG Newtown and now Surry Hills. They have a wide variety in their menu of classic and inventive dishes. They really love their pork here, serving all sorts of pork meat, sausages, bacon etc. The Newtown cafe is located so conveniently just outside the station and is constantly buzzing. They also have a little coffee and takeaway counter outside for those who don't have the time to dine in. FYI seating may be a bit cramped inside as they try to pack as many chairs/tables in, but if it's a nice day consider sitting outside under the awning.

Visited Cuckoo Callay after seeing many Instagram-worthy pictures of them online. Handy location (basically at the Newtown station). I ordered the Sideways Shuffle. One of the most memorable platings I've ever seen! Blue swimmer crab cake with corn & avocado salsa, watermelon (obviously!), cucumber & melon jelly and a 63 degrees poached egg. Yum. This dish definitely deserves more than a 'Star'!

This Newtown café, perched right on the edge of Newtown Station, is certainly ahead of the game on bacon. I'm impressed that they lay down information about provenance right on the front of their menu. What's even better they're staying local by collaborating with Black Forest Smokehouse to turn ethically raised Aussie pigs into bacon. Cuckoo Callay are currently in the grips of their third annual Bacon Festival. Falling from betwixt their regular menu, the glossy film festival-styled brochure is pretty hard to miss. For starters, it's bright pink, and loaded with dishes based upon porcine puns on contemporary films. You’ll also find bacon merch. in case you feel the need to advertise that you're truly a bacon-believer. Best thing on it: The Black Swine ($15) – a bowl of pure chip-eating pleasure, crowned with a compelling bacon mac’n’cheese, and sprinkled with crumbs of bacon.

It’s the 3rd year of the ANNUAL BACON FEST menu, with the release of 9 limited edition dishes that salute some iconic blockbuster films! Ingredients sourced from local state farms and local meat produce there’s something for everyone in this menu! Get in quick, these items that are on offer concurrently with the usual menu will be with us for another 9 weeks only!
