Rammed with a mostly-Korean crowd, Danjee is still pretty much the top of the food chain as far as Sydney’s Korean restaurants go. I tend to venture down the tiny alley between George Street and Kent Street for their extensive Korean booze selection and for my favourite fire chicken – Bul Dak ($38) – fix. To put out the fire (because this dish is seriously hot) we road-tested a Korean Rice Beer Sampler ($20). Offering up a rack of four brightly coloured, flavoured rice beers, this one’s more gimmick than great. However as you tuck into the dish’s spicy chicken thigh pieces, chewy tteok (rice cakes), pineapple hunks and cheese, I guarantee you’ll be reaching for these quirky but cooling liquids. We moved on to a clear rice wine (Cheongju) called Hwarang ($23/375ml) that’s made from 97% rice and 3% wheat, to suit our more subtle Sam Gye Tang ($29). This cloudy soup is flavoured with ginseng, dates and chestnuts, with a whole spatchcock (young male chicken) ...read more
one of the best korean restaurant in cbd!! quite pricey compare to other korean restaurant but the food in here so good!! if u order rice, they give u grain rice!! Must order dish in here is the kimchi pork ribs soup!! is quite big for 3-4 people. unfortunately they dont sell this soup in individual or smaller portion!!
By far the best korean restaurant i have been to! I loved it!
The Korean BBQ section is split, which i appreciated as my clothes did not smell like meat afterwards.
Definitely try the Korean drinks here - the plum & raspberry wines were delicious and really added to the flavours.
The food- you have to try the Korean Fried Chicken - absolute heaven!
The wasabi/horseradish coated salad was quite delicious too!
Danjee feels like an "upper class" Korean restaurant. I really love the food here. The sashimi entree (Korean style with spicy sauce) is delicious! The fried chicken also deserves a special mention, it comes with two delicious sources - spicy and soy - with the soy sauce in particular having a really lovely cinnamon taste to it.
Staff here have always been really friendly and attentive.
In short, the food here is good.
I have nothing to complain about their food.
However, I snapped three stars off for their service.
I have to admit that I value service a little more than food itself. If there was a case where food is average, but service was good and friendly, I would surely go back whenever there's a chance. But if it were the opposite, I would rather go somewhere else with better service. We all know there are now a lot of great places with excellent dishes out there, but very few places with friendly service. That's why I absolutely value service.
I'm not asking for a luxurious treat and dedicated waiter by my table. Just a smile and welcome, that's all I ask. Nobody wants to feel that they are just people with money in their pocket.
