Dead Man Espresso
A cafenista and foodie havenCoffee connoisseurs frequent this venue in droves for a fix of the house blend espresso roasted by Seven Seeds or the weekly changing single origin blend. Owners Kylie Mackinlay and Luke Mutton spent time at St. Ali, often voted Melbourne's best coffee haunt, before branching out on their own. Laurent Hoffarth (ex Donovan's) manages the kitchen and serves up plenty of crowd pleasers infused with a gourmet twist such as omelette of the day stuffed with preserved lemon, ricotta and thyme or smoked salmon on rye with avocado and a grapefruit salsa. A fabulous cafe and one that will have you coming back time and time again.
If you’re a coffee aficionado, Dead Man is gonna slay you. Since its opening late last year, this little caff has been tearing up Melbourne’s blue ribbon caffeine scene with its outstanding blends. Despite consistently rave reviews and a rabid fanbase, both staff and interior have remained charming and simple, with not an ounce of pretentiousness among them: when the coffee’s this good, it seems, there’s no need to ...read more
I decided to check this place out on a recommendation and I have to admit that I really wish I didn't. Okay, it certainly wasn't the pits, but it certainly doesn't deserve any more than two stars. The good thing about it was that the open steak sandwich was okay (not fantastic, but not bad either), and the staff were pretty friendly. However it was the bad that overtook it. First of all the coffee was by far and away the worst coffee that I have ever had, and this is coming from somebody that doesn't have a problem drinking Starbucks coffee. The other thing that really put me off was that the food seemed to take absolute ages to prepare, and when it came out it really didn't seem to be a huge amount. Okay, it was nice, but the delay, and drinking a coffee that was absolutely disgusting really put a dampner on the afternoon. I certainly won't be coming back anytime soon, even if I did live in South Melbourne.
We ventured down for a family Mother's day breaky. Pouring rain and yet we still struggled to find parking. Imagine in better weather. We had to wait for a table - you cannot book ahead. Service was slow and average, and they got the coffees wrong. But the food was absolutely great and despite being pricey, was tasty. I had the campfire breaky and it was enough for breaky and lunch. Shame I never received the hot sauce I asked for. The coffee was small and not hot. The bill at the end, ouch
Perfectly casual. this cafe is nestled down a side street but well worth the detour. it has a comfortable rustic interior, a nice relaxed vibe, great coffee and great food. They use some nice blends and singles (mostly from seven seeds) and they have some great, slightly unique, food options on the menu.
A perfect cafe to chill in and drink/eat it up. The staff are friendly (and don't bother you unnecessarily). Strangely it doesn't seem overly busy - despite the hype. Check it out before it gets too popular.
