Deviate has become a favourite of ours over the last couple of months. We originally found it when looking for a park to head down for a swim and relaxed afternoon at Clovelly and now whenever we are in the will stop in for food or even just to grab a coffee. The menu has a great selection and the Spicy Corn Fritters and Big Bene is our usual. Filling, tasty and consistent - what you want when you know exactly what you want. Breakfast/brunch and coffees for two will not usually see you get much change from a $50. The location in Clovelly means that it automatically has that relaxed beachside chill factor that makes for a stress free breakfast and the open kitchen and seating provides for heaps of natural light and warmth, even in winter. The ultimate topping for me is that fact that your coffee comes with a Tiny Teddy - and if that doesn’t make you smile then you obviously don’t remember those old school days when you have to restrain yourself from opening you lunchbox ...read more
Absolutely love this place. It's quite hidden/small however it is defs a must go to place. I always accidentally order the same brekky (Dave's brekky) everytime i come here (forgetting I ordered it before) but it is just too good. The Trout Hash is also the best, those sweet potato rosti is just to die for. Coffee is great, juice is great, everything is great. Dog friendly and the service is A+, a good spot to go to after a swim at Clovelly
Went here for a quick breakfast and a coffee. Lovely man running the place and immediately took my coffee order, the coffee came out very fast, and although I was disappointed with no latte art or he famous tiny teddy that normally accompanies the coffee, it was nice coffee. I ordered the toasted fig and granola with Greek yoghurt, strawberries and blueberries. It was very tasty and a good portion size for the price. I got both for $16 total which is pretty good these days. Nice atmosphere and they have an extensive menu with a multitude of breakfast options, lunch and dinners. Would also be a perfect place for a small group dinner, farewell or Christmas party. The man told me about the evening promotion of a few sliders with a beer for $20 for the state of origin which seems like a pretty good deal!
After spending a lot of time trying to find a parking space (it is a residential area after all), entering Deviate Cafe is like a cool breeze air washing over all the stress. The friendly greeting, alongside the warm atmosphere of the slightly intimate yet spacious family-feel dining area, makes you feel right at home.
We visited their place on a Saturday night after finding out about their establishment from a group buy deal site. We were served a 9-dish taste course of variety of nibbles, dishes, and desserts. Some of them includes beef meatballs, salt & pepper squid, mini burgers, gnocchi (which was very soft and super delicious), ribs, and chocolate cake. Overall, the foods are down to earth in a sense that they are not super unique and special dishes, but they tasted very nice and accessible just like a family type cooking but with added delicious factor.
Again, I cannot stress out how friendly and courteous the service was.
Deviate do some of the best coffee in the east and their breakfasts are also great, the service is good and the location means that you can get table in the winter sunshine (blankets provided if it is a bit nippy). The poached eggs and avocado fetta smash is my favourite, they also do a great banana smoothie! #reviewtowin
