Diesel Bar & Eatery, which is owned by Jamie Nasser, is a Manhattan inspired venue located in this heritage listed building at 202 Little Lonsdale Street.
With a dining experience that is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the Melbourne inspired menu, Diesel Bar & Eatery is offering a surreal and unique fusion of decadence, grunge and glamour.
Designed by Wendy Bergman from Bergman & Co, inspiration has been taken from the building’s previous tenant Diesel clothing, resulting in an eclectic, provocative and distinctive atmosphere. With unusual features, the new Diesel Bar & Eatery houses many artistic creations including an African gazelle overhanging from the walls, along with a bespoke, rib-like chandelier spanning the entire roof and stunning mural on the second level created by Australian artist, Graeme Galloway.

I probably should point out first that this place seems to be geared more towards the business crowd than otherwise, and on a Friday night there does tend to be a line outside. I’ve been here a few times, namely because it was just around the corner from work, and it is actually pretty cool. Well, it’s probably not really my scene, but I still liked it. During the day it is your typical coffee shop, and I wasn’t all that impressed with the coffee, but at night it is not just a bar but also a nightclub. The upstairs area opens up and it is quite a lot larger than the downstairs area. Oh, they also have some pretty cool beers on tap.
The owners have just spent a small fortune to create thiis stunning new place deep in the heart of the CBD, but off the main drag. It is absolutely lovely, if not just a little too dark when you go in for breaky. But what breaky. Wow. The Chilli scramble was really nice although next time I'll ask for extra chilli; and yet the other choices read so well I may pick something else. Prices were also really good.
