Dimmey's is a classic Footscray icon and used to be located on Albert Street in the heart of Footscray. It has since relocated to Central West shopping centre on Ashley Street in Braybrook, so not too much further and over the years it still sells an amazing selection of random household knick knacks and cheap clothing and hoseiry. They selll parallel imported cleaning products and discounted cooking utensils and bedding and towels, which I think is well worth the rummage. They also sell Sheridan sheets for a fraction of the price. Basically all the stock here is liquidated from somewhere at some point in time. Don't expect a comfortable shopping experience or much customer service. Always makes for an interesting visit.
The very famous old store traditionally known as Forges out in the west!. They used to have huge premises out in Footscray, until they closed down a few years ago. Since then, a few new stores have opened. Believe there are roughly about 40 stores across Australia. The Braybrook store out in Central West is one of their newer locations, large warehouse stocked with clothes, manchester, baby products, stationary and even food. Right at the back of the store there is a key/shoe repairer. This fellow has been around for as long as I could remember also, he was also based at the old Footscray store. Products that they stock are relatively cheap and low in prices in comparison to the likes of other department or grocery stores, in saying that so are the quality most of the time. Good bargain when they have sales but the most messy layout on the floor. Sometimes its just a matter of digging through piles to find the right size or item. Not much staff to assist on the floor. The only time i come here is when they have a bonds sale. Always more than half price off on socks, jumpsuits, singlets. 3 jumpsuits for $20, 2 pairs of socks for $2. Good stock up for my son on the sizes for a cheap price.
Huge shop. Old stock that doesnt seem to be updated and the rudest staff imagineable. No one around and when you do interrupt someone to help you they do so with a rude attitude answering one question with a no, then turned around and walked away without offering any more info, advice or allowing any more questions.
Cant see this shop lasting with service like that!
