DOOF DOOF We Know FOOD Backwards is the brain child of market gardener/chef Hayden Rogers. From humble beginnings growing up on a small farm near Angaston S.A. and selling vegies and eggs to his primary school teachers to working on a cattle station, fishing boat, meat works and many varied restaurants around Australia, DOOF DOOF We Know FOOD Backwards is a culmination of this and fifteen years commercial organic market gardening.
At DOOF DOOF We Know FOOD Backwards we only stock organic produce and products; if it is not available organically we do not have it. This is how we retain our status as a quality organic store and have the added benefit of only having the best and freshest produce on our shelves.
This is also reflected in the caf? menu which has evolved around the same quality produce. DOOF DOOF We Know FOOD Backwards standard recipes are simple but tasty using the natural clean flavours of quality organic produce. Soups are not thickened by adding flour or other thickening agents, just plenty of the main ingredient or by adding pulses. Each dish is created to be healthy as well as tasty with milk used in the scrambled eggs rather than cream as one example and only the best olive and rice bran oil used for cooking and in salads.
Our food is designed to energize and invigorate the consumer and a natural high with not only taste but nutritional value as well.
Many of the dishes are vegan from soups and curries to cakes, salads and breakfasts. There is also a large selection of gluten free choices and while we have gluten in the shop we can not guarantee 100% free, we are aware of individual requirements as far as allergies and ethical choices are concerned and give our utmost to satisfy discerning customers.

This is a great store and cafee! I love their philosophy on food which has to be sustainable and affordable. "If it's not fresh that day, it is tomorrow's curry and soup. There is no loss; no wastage". I am new to Adelaide and have become a regular customer for their produce. The quality of their vegetables and fruit superb and they are very, very reasonable priced! Highly recommended, also for breakfast, lunch, or coffee.
I booked brunch for a large group and whilst I would return again, I wouldn't take a large group again - it was a bit chaotic and the staff do not appear to be equipped for it. There were long delays with the drink orders with the final drinks arriving about 50 minutes after the order was placed. Food was organised better with minimal delays and meals arriving in a reasonable pace.
Can definitely recommend the juices - delicious and nice big glasses. The only improvement would be some ice on a hot day. Coffee was also good. The meals were a generous serve (the omelette was huge).
