A simple, cosy indoor cafe, nestled downstairs next to the escalators in Boronia mall, offering a vast range of old-fashioned meals and snacks. While the lack of windows and ornaments may make the Down Under Cafe appear cramped and dingy from outside, mirrors around the back walls give the illusion of extra space, and there is plenty of seating, even during busy times. The reasonable prices and classic, unpretentious menu attract older patrons, and food is always fresh - much of it cooked or prepared to order. Roast meat is on display, and friendly waitresses will shave strips off to make sandwiches or roast lunches. Their home-made chips and wedges are crispily delicious, and they have a selection of Peters scoop ice-cream alongside classier cakes and tarts. It may take a long time for meals to arrive, but the wait is always worthwhile.
