Very disappointed. I have 2 main issues with this centre and the way its run.
The first issue is the unexpected costs and lack of being advised. Booked the appointment a while ago and went to see the doctor as having breathing problems. Was told the consultation fee and happy to accept it. When I attended, I was asked to complete a breathing test before seeing the doctor. When I saw the doctor, it was then requested that I complete a allergy test. There was no mention of costs or anything associated to that, just about the timeframe it would take to complete. After the test there was a quick discussion around a separate sleep test and the cost associated with it. All happy so far. We made tentative bookings for the sleep test (Which would be paid closer to the actual test itself). I proceeded to the counter to pay the bill for the day which they put through. Just as I was about to ...read more
Disappointed, i went along with my mother who was given a cpap machine for her sleep apnea, sure the machine works but my mum is still unable to sleep, dr freibergs reply "some people heve rubbish sleep" then he pulls out a passionfruit and starts eating it in front of us. He was totally rude and disrespectful towards an old lady concerned and looking for answers why she still coulnt sleep even after using the cpap machine recommended by dr freiberg , his reply the cpap machine is for sleep apnea , the machine is doing its job, some people have rubbish sleep and thats insonmia and gave her a couple of prescriptions and sent her away. She was so upset afterwards. All he does is sell the machines then gets people to come back for check ups with no real desire to help.
Sleep apnoea and insomnia are common coexisting problems in the elderly. Untreated Sleep apnoea has significant risks particularly in the elderly including heart attacks, stokes, and even dementia. The gold standard treatment is CPAP. If sleep apnoea is severe pensioners are eligible for CPAP supplied by the government ENABLE scheme. This requires demonstration of strict adherence to therapy. My practice does not sell CPAP machines.
Insomnia on the other hand does not have the same risks and is less well understood and treated. It is difficult to use CPAP when the insomnia keeps the patient awake for most of the night. This patient was prescribed the only approved, safe, medication specifically for insomnia. The hope with this medication that sleep would be more sustained allowing for tolerance of CPAP therapy. This is a very challenging area and there is no simple fix. I encourage the patient to contact me for further advice and assistance.
During the whole 4 min sitting we had with you, you said nothing of this at the appointment, like i mentioned above all you said was the cpap machine is doing its job insomnia was different , your exact words some people have rubbish sleep "you said this more than once. the perscription you gave was ,only after my mum asked for it,, a nasal spray she had used in the past. And a sleeping pill. Clearly she has breathing issues. Furthermore you didnt even give her the results or say anything about the breathing test she had prior to seeing you, infact, the lady that did the test came in to show you how to pull my mums file up. Uninterested with my mums concerns ,you pulled out a piece of fruit and began eating in front of us after we waited over 20 min to see you. In that 20min around 4 to 5 people went in and out, so i assume you see each patient for a timed 4 to 5 minutes. Furthermore you said nothing about the cpap supplied by the govt.
Barely investigates the issue before suggesting cpap unit. When unit doesn’t resolve the issue says it’s narcolepsy.
