Duke Of Gloucester Hotel
The Duke of Gloucester Hotel in Randwick has managed to avoid the surgeon's knife and retain its classic corner pub feel. With the original tiles and signage gracing this pub's exterior, you cannot help but feel transported to a time when pubs were homely rather than chic. The bistro area enables patrons to order a salad or one of this establishment's infamous steaks. A beer garden out the back is the perfect place to relax and unwind on a Friday afternoon.

While I wouldn't consider this one of my favourite pubs, it still has a nice charm about the place, and the fact that it does have some decent beers on tap (craft beers that is), does give it a few points in my book. Okay, while it isn't really its fault that it lies a bit of a way from the main public transport routes (though you can get there by bus), it does make it a difficult pub to visit if you don't happen to be a local. Still, it does have some charm about it, and has made itself stand out from your typical, boring, suburban pubs. It does draw a decent crowd on a sunday, and has a nice outdoor area as well, however its inaccessiblity is a bit of a drawback.
There is a lovely pub here, just waiting to get out. The DoG had a major renovation a year or so ago and now boasts a pretty courtyard. Upstairs still has a balcony overlooking Frenchman's Road which is a pleasant enough place to be on a summer's evening. There are just two elements that need fixing to shoot this pub from two stars to four stars: the food and the staff.
There's something unusual about the DoG. It's a road away from my house so I've drunk there weekly for about 5 years. In that time I've seen dozens of bar teams, and a couple of bar managers, come and go. What's odd is that the team working the bar is uniformly grumpy and disinterested. It is literally the only local ...read more
Attitudes of management stink. Uncooperative and aggressive stance when their establishment was clearly in the wrong.
I will not go here ever again and will warn people not to either.
Food is inedible and conversion into a 'TAB' outlet rather than a pub also is a sad indicator of the pub sector in Australia.
Let\'s start with their description of the place \" With the original tiles and signage gracing this pub\'s exterior, you cannot help but feel transported to a time when pubs were homely rather than chic.\" More like newly refurbished, hacked up job that in no way reflects the era or original character of when it was built. Product: I was a regular over 18 months but no longer. The amount of times l have been there and the beer l want on tap has run out or the cider ... and let\'s not get started with the beers in the bottle shop. I now walk down the road to other pubs and bars for a take away cause then l know they will have it in stock and a much bigger selection. Food, tried it once was ok.. definitely not the best steak in town. Management: Aggressive and they don\'t really care. There are plenty of other pubs in the area that have it all.
