This is another one of those pubs that is hidden away in the side streets and I never even knew of its existence until a group of friends decided to come here one night after a church conference. Okay, while we were supposed to be getting up early the next morning, this certainly didn't stop us from coming in here for a couple of drinks. While I have only ever been here twice, it was that first time that really warmed me to the place. I actually have to say that it is a pretty cool pub, especially since it is hidden away so you are not likely to be confronted with the regular pub crawling partons, yet it has an atmosphere all to its own. It certainly does show how the area has changed over the years. Of note they have a beer legends challenge, which I have heard is quite a feat to achieve, and they have some very interesting toppings for their Schnitzels. While I didn't get an opportunity to try any of time, I'm sure to give one a go if I ever find myself back here.
Held my cousins baby shower here in the outdoor area during spring time. The staff were friendly and did a good job helping me sort out the finger foods and drinks etc prior to the party and on the day. They allowed me to decorate outdoor and set up tables and chairs how we wanted it. It was a nice day. The foods that we ordered weren't too bad either, found the mini burgers a tad dry but other than that was very pleased with it all.
My idea of a great hotel is one that is not fancy but familiar. friendly and warm rather than polite and cold. the 'classic pub' feeling you get when you step through saloon doors and there's dust atop the numerous ornamental objet d'ar adorning the unreachable space above the top shelvers. however, I realise that this is not an opinion shared by some patrons who expect restaurant quality service from a pub and as a result find themselves bewildered and outraged when their $12.99 rump steak is medium-rare and not medium-well as they had specifically requested. it is for these reasons that the Earl of Leicester in Parkside would have to be my favorite pub. I could go on at length about their charming front bar stocked with beers that i cant find anywhere else or the monolithic proportions of their schnitzels but the reason why i think The Earl is one of Adelaide's most excellent meal pubs is how they've catered to every kind of patron. people like me can enjoy ...read more
