East Sydney Hotel
Coined as the last country pub in Sydney, the East Sydney Hotel has a traditional colonial pub atmosphere. There's no pokies or TV screens, just the sound of friendly banter as patrons enjoy the good quality fare and drinks. There's a cute outdoor area, and the pub's vintage heritage is accentuated by the old artworks and ads hanging from its walls.
I've been here a couple of time and I have to say that this is one of those nice inner-city pubs hidden away on a side street that has quite a lot of charm. Okay, the first time I came here it was for lunch and the options that were available were incredibly limited, but it had more to do with the time of day than anything else. What I do like about the place is that it has retained its old charm from the days when it was a local corner pub. Has all this old pictures and adds from the fifties that show us how alcohol (particularly Tooheys) was advertised back then, and in a way it is almost a window on the past. They also have a semi-outdoor restaurant with a pool table out the back, which I also really liked.
