You know it's going to be a good week when your colleague brings in a plate piled high with syrup soaked, golden baclava.
I tried at least one of each variety; they're not sickeningly sweet as some of these popular Lebanese desserts can tend to be so it is possible to have more than one. In fact, I challenge you to stop at just one!
I was expecting a Messina kind of situation and indeed that's what their ice cream flavors are like with some mediterranean flavors in their range which is so exotic! I opted for the Panna Cotta Ice Cream which was rich and creamy and oh so perfect on this hot hot day!
Such a great space with the best air conditioning on this humid day and to the front area by the floor to ceiling windows are lounge and arm chairs for a relaxed coffee and snack session and to the back more of a cafe stye offering and menu to match.
But what really sets the tone of the ambience in this place are the walls of desserts with every type of Baklava you can think of (ie. fingers, boogie [baskets], bulbuls [birds nests], Balorei, Basma, Mamoule, Namora, hampers, snack packs and freshly made sweets. it's like being in Charlie's Chocolate Mediterranean Factory!!!!
There are not many Middle-Eastern dessert houses in Sydney, so imagine my surprise when I visited El Sweetie and was mesmerized by their all-out Middle Eastern dessert offerings.
Located just a few minutes away from Granville train station, the shop occupies a large floor space with equally large atmosphere. There are lounges area for when you feel like winding down, as well as general tables for when you are with large groups of family and/or friends.
The shop is filled with items of many kinds, all behind glass displays. Cakes, sweets, and everything in between. Then there are also Lebanese fruit cocktail which looks very colourful and are very popular with kids, as well as Argilys (fruit inhaler).
In addition to desserts, they also sell main courses such as pasta.
The staffs are friendly and professional. They are happy to help for when you need some pointers on how to prepare the Turkish coffee!
