I'm not sure if this is the same Elizabeth Books that used to be in the city, and that it has just relocated, but it is still a pretty cool second-hand bookshop. In fact, I stumbled across it shortly after I left another bookshop, and in a way couldn't believe my luck that I had found two bookshops in a row. So, not surprisingly, I stepped inside to have a look around, and sure enough, within a few minutes found a couple of books that interested me. I guess this is why I love Newtown.
The thing I love about Elizabeth's is that they recycle books for you.
I can go in with a box of books and I get credit towards new purchases.
The new store is much roomier and I can still loose a few hours in here happily. Staff are always friendly and there's the dog water bowl out the front with a cute quote on a chalkboard usually.
What more can you ask in a bookstore really?
A fabulous array of new and pre-loved book, artfully run by their wonderful manager Mel. The staff are friendly, insightful, very helpful and have great senses of humour and their range of books is extensive and affordable, with a delightful range of discounted bargains for those living thriftily. A pleasure to shop in and highly recommended!
Elizabeths has a sense of humour, its warm and bright and on most days its front windows are thrown open and its wares spill out onto the street. Tempting passers-by are a plethora of discount books ranging from cooking to fiction, truly something for every pallet. If you are not lured in by these tempting treats there is an original quotation or piece of wisdom chalked up by the front door to amuse even the most dour of potential customers- one of my favourites so far appeared last Wednesday: never make eye contact whilst eating a banana. I had been determined to march by because Ive eaten through most of my savings but I got the giggles and I couldnt help myself, I hope many others felt the same compunction to join in the fun.
My favourite bookstore of all time. Its a little cramped inside, but doesn't matter because it is stacked full of books. All the books are interesting and include alot of hard to find novels. The books are reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
