Ernest Hill Wines

I have a love for this place based on the fabulous experience we had there. We arrived at Ernest Hill Wines at 4pm, an hour before their cellar door closed. Nevertheless, we were seated in a little nook overlooking the acres of grape vines and admiring the view. Our tasting was the best we had in the Hunter Valley, led by an older gentleman and I am so sad I did not get his name because he has to be one of the best humans. He was so light-hearted, funny and clearly thoroughly enjoyed what he did and his fine wine. He took us through all the wines, going off the list and offering us some premium samples. He had a funny quip or a story to go with each one which really humanised the whole experience and made you feel so invested in the families that owned the vineyard and the characters their wines were named after. I always end up filling the boot of the car with their wines! My wife loves the whites, and I love their reds. One of the "must visit" if you are in the area.

Small, family run set up. Really friendly and some great wines too. They have a great chardonnay, I think it's called Chicken Shed. And their William Henry Shiraz is also a top drop. Take the time, well worth it.
