Essen Restaurant

I hate giving low stars, I really do. But the food here left me so... disappointed that I can't not.
I had such high hopes - and maybe it's because I've eaten in some authentic European feast type places that my tastebuds were expecting more of a choir than what was served.

Last month was my first revisit to Essen after a long time after my friends and I have discovered a group-buy deal for this restaurant. The place seems to have maintained its look and feel over the years: a warm, classic feel and a charming vintage atmosphere with a modest hint of German dcor where the food offerings originated.
The staffs were quite friendly and attentive although I wouldn't mind if they could top it up a notch. The dishes were very original and they also had quite extensive range of drinks.
The dishes serving sizes were quite decent although we did expect them to be a little bit larger. We definitely loved their sausage platter. It was such an exciting dish with different kinds of sausages, making it an awesome dish to have. The pork belly was also very well prepared and, for lack of a better phrase, "melts in your mouth".
The price was also quite decent. Overall, it was an enjoyable night.
Hubby and I went here on our wedding anni. Great service but pretty bland food. However the servings are huge, and the blandness was fixed with seasoning and positive attitudes. If it weren't for the vouchers we would have sent our meals back, but because our waiter was so lovely we decided not to be painful about it! A short walk from Broadway Shopping Centre, take advantage of the free parking there and stroll on down to Essen.
