I started karate classes at EKA as an adult in 2005 with no previous martial arts knowledge and am currently working towards my 2nd dan black belt. From the first class, I was impressed by the friendly atmosphere and focus on continuous improvement. The EKA instructors and senior students were all patient and experienced, which made learning easier.
There is a definite emphasis on safely practicing self defence techniques which could be used in real life situations. Kata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kata) is one of the teaching methods used and also cultivates discipline and focus.
