Well if I had done my homework prior to staying at The Fairmont in Leura, I would have realised not to stay there. However, I did get sucked in by their website, promising me a lovely deluxe room, in a lovely resort. I was introduced to this website by booking.com which also displayed the lovely rooms and pool to be expected. My husband and I arrived to a very impressive welcome of porters waiting at the entrance, welcoming smiles and I thought, wow, am I glad I booked here. However, that was about where the fantasy ended. I am really sad to say. The deluxe room, which had been sold to me with a King Bed and room for extra people, was a substandard room, with two single beds shoved together. It was dirty, dusty, the light fittings had bad water stains on them, and paint chips. The coffee table had pieces missing out of the joinery. There were really bad stains on the carpet. Pubic hairs in the bathtub. You had to see how much dust in the lattice work ...read more
We've just spent 3 nights at Fairmont for Christmas. What a waste of money. York Fairmont Resort is nothing like it was under Peppers. York has cut staff (according to the few staff left) & a huge drop in quality and standards. Our room had NO airconditioning. We complained for 2 days & were told repeatedly that it would be "fixed right away". After our 2nd hot night we insisted we have a room change. We were told that many other rooms at Fairmont have faulty aircon & York are not maintaining the hotel. The bathroom was filthy- mould in shower & around the basin. Room was dusty. No porters to assist with the heavy luggage trolley all the way to the room. The safe was broken. The new room also dirty, had no kettle, no bath plug & the tv didn't work. Christmas lunch was a huge disappointment- they didn't have ENOUGH food for everyone.
We won't be returning again.
Did not live up to my expectations. I had heard great reviews when this was a "Peppers" property, but since the new managment have taken over, the service/overall presentation of this hotel has dropped considerably. Rooms are old, worn out and the furniture looked like it had been there since the early eightys. Carpets in the common areas were threadbare, outdoor pool was closed, indoor pool was over chlorinated. The hotel is in a great location and the staff are friendly which did make up for some of the shortcomings. The potential to be a world class resort is still present, but at the moment not worth the price.
