I attended the chiropractic clinic after a work related back injury which left me with near migraine like head pain and an awful pain I my back. The chiropractor informed me that he believed I have a bulging disc in my back- which as someone who works in the medical industry, I am aware is quite a big issue. He sent me off for x-rays, and I returned to see him to confirm the diagnosis, which he did after perusing the x-ray. He also informed me I have an old spinal fracture. Your doctor should educate you that when a nerve in the back is pinched, it has to be pinched by something. Depending on your history, symptoms, examination and in your case x-ray findings the diagnosis of what is causing the pinch can usually be made. In your case a bulging disc. The pinched nerve is the symptom of a bulging disc.
The fractures referred to are pars defects, stress fractures in this case, of the lower lumbar spine are often caused from poor posture, resulting in low back pain and muscle spasm. The muscle spasm often being misconstrued as torn muscles. They are not.
For your own clarification, I'd advise you to have a weight bearing MRI taken of your low back so your better informed to reconcider all the advice you've recieved.
I stand by all the advice I've given to my patients.
