I have not seen this place, I think they may have changed owners.
However the actual venue has a warm ambient feel where you can sit intimately inside or sit on the front external decking. Being a transformed home I think this is why it has such a warm inviting feel. As for the food their $25.90 lunch special was great value for money where you could enjoy a main and dessert all for that small price.
The ambience was lovely, it was warm (often restaurants are too cold) and inviting. The young waiting staff were efficient and pleasant. The restaurant was very obliging in accommodating one of our diner's special dietary needs. Everyone enjoyed their meals. After dessert, the waiting staff just disappeared and did not return to ask if we wanted tea or coffee, even though the restaurant was quite empty by this time. We waited a while then got their attention. Also the teas and coffees arrived without a little chocolate/after dinner mint, something we expect of any restaurant of this calibre. They did not bring over our bill either and we had to chase that up. Anyway, we really enjoyed the evening at Ficelle, and hope to revisit perhaps in the summer when the outdoor deck is in use. It is one of it's kind, moderately priced and above average for this area - a good place for a special date or celebration (there's even special function rooms if you want a separate party).
I have never had a bad meal at Ficelle, having dined there maybe 6 times in the last couple of years. Last night we took advantage of the 3 course special (Mon-Wed), everything was devine! The braised beef main was especially succulent and the lemon tart was the perfect end. We did a little out of place however, no offence intended, but we were the youngest there by about 30 years!! We'll go again for sure.
