Where to start? We have been supporters of the Fish Cafe in Balgowlah since it opened. You will see my previous reviews. Whilst not a 5 star Michelin restaurant it has developed its menu over time to provide quite reasonable meals and because it is local we have supported it. We have also supported it because we like to go out and eat at places where the wait staffs, chefs and management know us; where we can have a relationship, feel welcome and welcomed and have some rapport. We would consider some of the people at the Fish Cafe friends. Well no longer after the other evening. We booked and arrived promptly around 715. We were a table of 5 and we waited for 70 minutes for our entrees ( which was one dozen oysters in total). However the waiting team outdid themselves with the mains. The Fishcafe has been around for a while now and still provides good value especially for those who haven't been here before. Food is fresh and service excellent. There has been a disappointing loss of character however with the maitre d and head waiter Neil defecting to Cala Luna at the Spit earlier this year. Also the menu seems frozen in some kind of Northern Beaches time warp as nothing has changed including the wine list in a year, except for the welcome addition of a man size serving of Papardelle matriciana.
Overall I am still a fan - but guys you need to revamp the menu ... Please!!!!
