I''ll put this very simply, I drive past other fish & chip shops on my way to this one.
Easily the best in the area and everything good fish and chips should be.
Fresh, not to greasy, not overly salty, and best of all the batter has both crunchiness and chewiness at the same time.
I ordered grilled fish there tonight and it came BATTERED and then grilled. What. the. hell? I have never had to specify at any fish and chip shop I have ever been to, that I want my grilled fish UNbattered. I called and queried it when I got home and realised and was basically told too bad because I didn't say I didn't want it battered. Well that was just lovely of them because it left me without dinner since I can't actually eat flour as I am gluten intolerant. Needless to say, I won't be back, there are several other fish and chip joints that grill fish unbattered without you asking. I can't even imagine people without gluten intolerance would want to eat battered grilled fish to be honest, the whole concept of mystifies me.
I just had the flake last night and it wasn't thin at all, as with every other time i have been there for the last 7 years, and it was actually cooked perfectly, I have been to other fish and chip shops in the area, and the quality of most of them have gone down hill, but this place had awesome fish, scallops and seafood sticks, chips could have used a bit more salt though, but that's just me
The chips, potato cakes etc are fine. The fish is a different story. Flake should never be paper thin like this shop sells. It is really busy which surprises me. Definitely cannot be the fish unless everyone in this area likes very average fish. In comparison to a few shops in the inner south east of Melbourne this Is ordinary at best
