In this competitive cafe environment, Flour Drum still remains one of my favourites. A place to go for old favourites, try something new & interesting and to indulge my sweet tooth. Since it opened, I have loved the mushroom medley with several types of mushrooms with contrasting flavour & texture, sitting on top of a blanket of middle eastern inspired, roasted pumpkin hummus topped with a perfectly poached egg. Or the smashed avo with bulgarian feta - an oldie & goodie but better then any other smashed avo. Then there is the coffee - strong, dense, perfect. And the array of sweets - vegan & non-vegan which are all amazing. All topped off with super friendly staff & service.
Lovely cafe with an interesting menu. The staff were helpful and very quick to ensure you had everything you needed. We had the Mushroom medley with pumpkin hummus and also the Poached Pear Porridge. On other occasions I have also had the wonton noodles. All meals eaten have been of high quality and I will continue to visit this excellent business.
Its hard to walk past this cafe & not notice. Whether its the happy people dining here or the smiling staff or the amount of people waiting for good coffee & food to go or their delectable, enticing & huge array of cakes visible from the window counter. The beautiful looking & smelling Middle Eastern Orange cake, apple & pear cake, brownies, salted peanut caramel tart, white & dark rocky roads with generous chunck of Turkish delight. The choices seem endless. On this occasion, I indulged in the new Hazelnut lamington & immediatelly understand about its popularity. Fluffy sponge, moist layers of hazelnut chocolate in between, coated with a generous amount of chocolate & coconut shavings. When it arrives at the ...read more
Visited this venue for the first time today and I'm very impressed. Trendy decor and cool ambience throughout. Spacious seating area available so this venue would be a great option if you dine with large groups. Their menu represents dishes from different parts of the world and all dishes I've tasted today were great! I especially adore their Spanish Chorizo Omelette, stone ground pappardelle pasta, Bbq duck dumplings with fresh egg noodle, chia pot, red velvet lamington and the giant choc chip cookies! Highly recommend.
We all know Newtown is a Sydney dining and drinking hot spot. With so much choice, how do you find the gems? We will help you, with this blog post. The place is called Flour Drum, an ecclectic cafe restaurant toward the St Peters end of King street in the mix with some cool boutiques and op shops. A great place to visit to kill a few hours browsing. But you will need some pre, or post browsing sustanance or even a caffeine kick, and Flour Drum is the place to get it.
Newtown is a little different, in a good way and Flour Drum, typically Newtown. A deceptively large dining space, with street side seating as well a two rooms with plenty of seating for dining in. The cafe is uniquely decorated with to a retro Australiana theme, quirky, yet cool. ...read more
