Flying Egg

Great cafe located practically inside St Leonards station. Quite spacious seating area with trendy vibe. Coffee is amazing, from The Grounds.
During this first visit I tried their dish, Fish of The Day, which is pan fried fish. You can choose from barramundi or salmon and I chose barramundi. Fish is perfectly cooked and every element is spot on! Love the beetroot puree.
I also tried their popular French toast. It’s indulgent and delightful.
Both dishes were generously portioned and presented well.
Flying Egg is a cute little cafe located at the station complex in St. Leonard's. We went there on a Saturday and it was very busy. We grabbed a table in the sun out the back and tuckered into a couple of coffees and breakfast. We had the baked eggs which were served in a cast iron skillet and a tomato base. We also tried the sweet corn fritters. These had a tangible sweet flavour which was unique from other corn fritters we have tried elsewhere - it was a pleasant surprise. Definitely a good place to stop off for an eat and coffee while in the area.
The first thing you’ll notice about Flying Egg St Leonards is the design. Owner Shane clearly has a flare for working with difficult spaces, and this oddly triangular venue sitting in an arcade that leads to St Leonards Station is definitely architecturally challenging!
By setting the counter and kitchen to one side, Shane has cleverly opened up natural light and long distance views along the railway line. By painting the fixtures and ceiling black, and the brick walls white, the view has been kept as the café’s centerpiece. A clever central divider running down the middle of the venue gives the impression of intimacy to the tables on either side, without closing down the view. White tiles, wall mounted light fittings, and off white wood grain ...read more
Just opened, and conveniently located in The Forum adjacent to the train station. Coming into work at St Leonards has gotten a whole lot better, now that Flying Egg has opened. Coffee is from The Grounds, and features an exciting menu that offers breakfast and lunch options in a bright, open style cafe. I sampled their eggs special scramble and was struck by the fluffy, creamy eggs perfectly cooked through, a soft bun and rich cheese. The sriracha mayo added a nice spicy heat and looked spectacular on the plate. The pancakes were excellent. Soft, fluffy pancakes with a honey butter and lemon maple syrup, is perfectly balanced. For the health concious, there's a selection of salads. The jumbo mambo definiely is an ode to all things pumpkin. Roasted Kent pumpkin with a Butternut puree and popped pepitas is combined with pancetta and kim-chi to really provide a salad with great depth of flavour. I have visited almost daily for a coffee hit and can confirm its ...read more
Newly opened cafe located near St Leonards Station and Royal North Shore Hospital. It is a wonderful place to dine as the staff are very friendly. We enjoyed the 60 degree eggs in the eggs benedict and the french toast was amazing. The food is made in house and you can tell the quality of the food being served. Sure it will become a neighbour favourite as quite busy when we were there.
