Foster's Ace Auto Repairs

Took in my aging vehical for a service with the front end suspension showing/feeling some wear. It turned out to be a big job, I got several phone calls throughout the day explaining what was wrong, what had to be done, the options for repair, and what each of those options would mean down the line. They recommended doing further maintenance while the IFS unit was taken apart, increasing the cost of the service, but saving alot of money down the road.

Down the road now, and that money was well spent, so here I am writing this review.

Had a major vehicle break down recently. (bang, crackle, pop internal engine type) Vehicle had to be towed. Contacted Foster's (RACQ approved) they were happy to take the vehicle at short notice. They rang me when they got the vehicle and told me when they would be able to have a look at it. Rang me to let me know that they had to dismantle a few things to diagnose the trouble. Rang me when they new what was wrong, what needed replacing and how much it would cost. Excellent that (Shaun) the mechanic made the phone calls to explain the problems and what was required. He also took the time when I collected the vehicle to explain the bill and what was done. Very detailed bill and explanation of work that was done. Never good to spend money but easier when you don't feel ripped off and the costs are fair, the worked well explained. Front office staff were great. Very happy. Honest, professional local business. I will absolutlely be back. thanks again.

SHOP ELSEWHERE!!

Terrible service. Needed to get my cars electronics tested (15min job with a scan tool) and was charged 1.5hrs work for $165. The person who runs the place is extremely rude and unprofessional. I asked why they billed 1.5hrs work when it's a quick job and the person straight away got on the defensive telling me they have $1000's machines in the workshop and has to pay the staff. The person told me I was "full of s*&%" when I told them other mechanics don't charge for a simple diagnostics.

Took it to another mechanic and it was tested for free and turned out to be the spark plugs that needed replacing, not the $1200 this clown quoted me.

I highly recommend going somewhere else! Save your money and find a genuine mechanic.

Very detailed report and reliable quote. They did a bit more and still were under their quotes price. I deduct half a star as they forgot to put the the lock nut tool back into the car but contacted me immediately and would have posted it if I had left town already. Friendly service.
