Jake at the Friend is much more than a burger joint in Jake Chalmers? and much more than a pub in The Friend In Hand Hotel Glebe?. It is a nostalgic trip to a retro pub museum ran by a cockatoo serving some of the better burgers in NSW with a side of beer. What more do you want?
This is located on Cowper Street which is tucked behind the main strip of Glebe Point Road. We visited here as some foodie friends were here for the burger eating contest! Quite enthralling watching people consume so many burgers in a short period of time. There were hands and burgers flying everywhere. The winner had consumed 11 burgers in 5 minutes.
Order at the counter, make payment, and get a buzzer. It'll go off once your food is ready to be picked up. It is a Jake Chalmers menu. ...read more
The mega premium double patty on THE TRUMP, glued together with nacho cheese is as juicy as the restaurant vibe of eclectic decor wish mash. The crunch of the diorite and lettuce countered with the kick of jalapeño! Accompaniments of interest include the fiery CHICKEN NIBBLES and loaded TATTER TOTTS for that crunchy starch factor essential to any burger affair.
This is one of those pubs where the owner seems to collect anything and everything and them find some place in the pub to put it. I have to admit that this style of pub does actually have a lot of character, and you can actually spend ages looking around at all the strange, weird, and wonderful things that seems to fill the walls and ceiling of this place. The owner himself is a rather gruff individual, and don’t expect any of those fancy craft beers on tap – this is a traditional pub with traditional beers, though it does have its own unique character about it. Also he has a pet cockatoo that wanders around the back, and the restaurant areas outside are also pretty cool. However it is the front bar that goes and gives this place the huge amount of character that it seems to draw.
