Went here for the first time last week and absolutely loved it. It's such a modern take on cuisine and the dishes are very reasonably priced.

Spending most of my early twenties living in Darlinghurst, my history with Fu Manchu dates back two decades to the mid nineties, a decade before I became a food writer. This longstanding restaurant was once located on Victoria Street, the other of the two streets whose intersection make up the trademark cross a republican like me prefers to imagine as the Kings Cross origin story. Of course that was before the upwardly mobile arrived and renamed everything Potts Point.

These days you’ll find Fu Manchu, decked out much more beautifully with 1930s Shanghai girls art and carved wooden screens, on Darlinghurst Road in ...read more

I love the decor of the restaurant and return again and again because of that as well as the location and the delicious food that is served. The menu offers both traditional and contemporary dishes and the atmosphere makes the dining experience very enjoyable.

We first went to Fu Manchu when they were in Victoria Street. This is our first visit since their move to Darlinghurst Rd.
Their food is very good and reasonably priced. It is a little bit dearer than before the move however the new fitout is much more up market.
Highly recommended.

I grew up in a small country town in SA where the only safe thing to eat at the local Chinese place were the prawn crackers, the greasy duck and sweet and sour pork was a complete turn off and the whole idea of Chinese cuisine sent shivers up my spine!

But moving to Sydney and visiting Fu Manchu not only changed my perception of Chinese cuisine but my desire to actually want to eat it!

The paper lanterns, basic decor and waving gold cats should not deter you from giving this place a go, the food is really fresh and theres such a variety of dishes even the fussiest eaters will find something delicious.

You really cannot go past the pork buns, steamed dumplings and house broth, and for under $30 you can walk out completely satisfied, or get it all boxed up because u ling they bling !
