Our family keeps trying to give this place a go, but alas every time we go for an event/dinner the food is well below par and the prices above average. The service is hit and miss and the venue is not well presented or layed out. The Gap is crying out for a good quality venue, maybe that is why The Gap Tavern doesn’t put the effort in.
Nice place and good setting, food average but expensive pub grub, not really restaurant quality. The staff however were surly, rude and unfriendly. When ordering drinks I ordered two pints which they started serving, then I ordered two vodka lime and sodas. At this point the bar staff member slammed the half poured pint of beer down on the counter and stormed off to get glasses for the VLS and poured them first before resuming the serving of the pints. this happened numerous times Also when I pointed out to another bar staff member that they had poured short measures they gave me a filthy look before reluctantly adding a splash of spirit to the glasses then slamming the drinks in front of me and snatching the money from my hand. It was embarrassing and I was made to feel like they were somehow doing me a favour by serving me at all. Not a word was spoken when the food was served and cleared away afterwards, my wife thanked the staff clearing the ...read more
Although having had a poor dining experience on our first visit to the Gap tavern some years ago, we decided to give them another try to see if they had gotten any better since we've last been. Upon arrival at 5pm on a Saturday, with the place all but empty, we were eventually greeted by the barman who upon asking if we held a reservation or not we responded that we did not. We were then adruptly handed menu's without even looking up from the table plan, still given no eye contact he half pointed out to the deck telling us to pick either table 5 or 7, with a distinct sense of disdane toward our being there. We weren't but two steps away from him when he asked which table we would choose to which I responded that I would like a chance to first locate and see the actual tables before choosing since we were offered the choice. Table 7 was already reserved with a sign stateing so, therefore we sat at table 5. We were rather shocked at his attitude as we we're the only ...read more
We have lived in The Gap for the last ten years, and we would always go to The Gap Tavern for almost every family occasion. Unfortunately though, the last few times we ordered, my family were not happy with the quality of the meals. The issues we had, was with the looooooooooong delay in serving the meals. When this became an all too often experience, we experimented by deliberately going on a Monday night. Even when there were very few customers, their service was still very slow. But the last time we dined here however, was by far the worst experience. When we arrived at our scheduled time, the wait staff showed us to our table. They had closed off the deck area on the playground side, due to the possibility of rain, so we were unable to sit at our regular table. When I noticed that the area was still open, I asked the wait staff why we couldn't sit at our regular table as it was not raining. Staff bluntly told me that they don't like people sitting in that area ...read more
The easiest way to comment on The Gap Tavern is not to name it's fault but to name what it does well. Well... Let me think ummm we got the food... Eventually hence why I generously gave it a half star. The GT ebbs and flows in quality and the good times don't last long. So now the things they don't do well, the food is always a hit or miss especially with steaks as you can have them hot but not cooked to your liking typically always over or cold and how you wanted it. The service I can't complain about as there wasn't any and the staff were disenfranchised with their job and walk around like they are just there to pass the time.
My suggestion is that if you are planning to go to a pub style dinner in The Gap, don't go here as they have below average pub meals for alfresco prices.
