You absolutely CANNOT go past the fresh, hot damper and baba ghanoush. SO moreish that I was literally licking the bowl. I love that you sit on the floor and the restaurant just transports you into an Arabian dream. The service isn't quite there for me but I would recommend going there if you haven't before. AND TRY THE BREAD!
I had a mixed experience at Garuva's. Firstly, we had to wait for around half an hour even though we had a reservation as there was some trouble with the group at the counter. There are plenty of warnings here about the seating- unique but can be impractical, avoid heels and consider any pregnant, disabled, or larger people in your group. The thing about this restaurant compared similar ones is that the seating is back to back, so the server cannot walk behind you and you cannot get out without everyone getting up for you. The problems was the bar- when we went to get our drinks the bartenders were flirting with a group of women and giving them free drinks, while a long line began to form. Even though we were right at the front of this line, it took us 20 MINUTES to get ...read more
The concept of this place is 'fun', but not that sensible. If you're sitting at the ends of the tables, it's virtually impossible to go to the toilets with ease. You have to step over all the other guests as you're sitting on the floor.
One of our group ordered the tempura vegetables and they were terrible. The batter was thick and tasted awful. The veggies were cut so thick and the 2 dipping sauces weren't brought with the dish. Fortunately we weren't charged for that dish as I complained about it to the staff.
The after dinner cocktails were great tho and so were most of the other dishes.
doesn't even deserve half a star. The service was beyond substandard. If you want to wait a year for your meal, wait on yourself and eat a meal you'll regret paying for, this place comes highly recommended. If you're into entertainment, you'll be disappointed with wailing singers on offer in the cocktail bar.
