Gloria's on the water cafe is located on the picturesque marina at beautiful Airlie beach. It's a shame that it was an entirely unpleasant visit. The staff rolled eyes and sighed audibly when I didn't know what I wanted. I ordered a coffee and some raisin toast, which was $8, but then because I was paying on eftpos (savings) they charged me with an extra $1 surcharge. While I was waiting I also grabbed a bottle of water. Another $1 surcharge.
For merchants the eftpos fee ranges from 5c to 25c. A $1 surcharge is both excessive and unnecessary.
Almost every surface in the Gloria's on the Water contained a sign "we do NOT give change!", "Do NOT read the newspapers", "do NOT put sugar in your coffee on the counter, take it OUTSIDE!", "Do NOT touch these tissues, they are for STAFF!"... It was so inhospitable it was almost comical.
The coffee was burnt and watery.
I would not recommend this cafe.
