I stopped by here again on my way back from Adelaide and I have to say that it wasn't what I remembered. You can't take the beers out the front anymore, which is a shame because the park offered a rather tranquil setting. The pub has a restaurant (which was quite crowded when I came here) and a sports bar, though it is probably more of a traditional front bar. It does have a pretty decent country charm about the place, though being on the main highway probably attracts a lot of travellers as well. I checked the beer garden out the back, and I must say that it is a pretty ramshackle affair, though it was quaint in it's own right. While I don't come this way as often as I had in the past, I still like the place and no doubt will stop by for a beer the next time I'm in the area.
A country pub that is hard to miss
This is another of those imposing country pubs that seem to dominate the town. It is located in the centre of Beaufort opposite a park. When I was driving back from Melbourne with my sister (or was it my father I can't remember) we decided to stop here and have a drink (namely because it was convenient, and also because I had seen this pub everytime I had passed through Beaufort, but had never had a beer here). From what I remember it was a decent looking hotel inside though we ended up going out the front, where there are some benches set up, to have a drink because, well, it as a nice day outside. It is a nice place to have a beer on a quiet afternoon overlooking the park (especially when you are driving back from Melbourne).
Dined at the Golden Age Hotel the other friday night.
Menu selection is pretty good for a country pub.
Our meals came out fairly quickly and were average, parma and salad. Salad is nothing to write home about and is served in a little wooden bowl.
The service went down hill from there, with us having to ask for our table to be cleared of empty plates and glasses, even then only half the table was done. Stood waiting at the bar to be served the barman walked straight passed and told the other barman to serve me.
