This pub is a bit out of the way of most of the action of the area, and is somewhat quieter than the others as well. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing though, and I wouldn’t say that this pub is necessarily bad. Okay, it wasn’t one of my favourites, but it was quiet, and somewhat relaxing. It also had some nice beers on tap as well, but I wouldn’t call it fantastic.
We have lived in the area for many years and never ventured in to this pub until recently. Wow what a pleasant surprise. The restaurant area is very warm and inviting. The menu is generous, affordable and yumo! They have reatained and old school pub feel in the main bar which I think is a necesity these days. Even though there were many children dining you could almost hear a pin drop as they were all sitting quietly entertaining them selves with little nippers colouring in packs, Great Idea! Nice work guy's!!!!!
This hotel is the after-match choice of the iconic Flying Bats Womens Sports club and a number of Womens Baseball clubs (believe it or not- I dont belong to either of these clubs). In any event, I am told the Golden Barley either sponsors or provides support for these clubs and being a sporting woman myself, I find this commendable and grace them with my patronage (that and there is almost always a good, friendly crowd on game days- usually Sunday arvos). The hotel has pool tables, a bottle-o(take away alcohol service), pokies, a lounge to hang out with and/ or to watch sport on their widescreen TVs and a cafeteria! Honestly....what more could you want. The outside area is open and in winter they provide patrons with heaters, which is a god-send. I cant say much about the staff which to me suggests that they do a decent job... So should you try it? Short answer, whether you are male, female, sporty, or lethargic.....this is a great venue, best enjoyed with company!
