Golden City Hotel
The Golden City Hotel was built in 1856 and originally named the Adelphi Hotel. Since its first opening the hotel has seen many changes including the transformation to a cafe-bar in December 1996.

My family enjoyed our meal. It was a busy atmosphere. Our food was well presented but the staff were limited on their knowledge on the food and what it contains so I had doubts on the safety knowledge for allergy issues.
I kept my choice to simple chips which I do not usually eat as I was unable to be fully convinced the salads were going to be safe to eat. Family members however who did eat the salads said they were delicious. I like the fact you could help yourself to water without waiting lengthy periods to wait for staff service. I did find it frustrating that you had to go to the bar to place a order but the prices reflected table service.
I felt like I was ordering at a simple pub but then once the meal came out the restaurant morphed into a better quality bistro. I do wish staff go back to tables to ask if everything was ok or if anyone needed anything but other than the extra lack of service the meals looked lovely.
Busy cafe with good atmosphere and bubbly staff, good menu comfortable tables but poor table service and can be a bit loud at times for conversation. My order was mixed up which is normally forgiveable but it was an ice chocolate which sat on the bar until it melted and they ended up serving it anyway ....
