After reading the raving reviews in general and the hot cross buns recommendation, we decided to head down on Easter Friday. Arriving an hour before closing time, service was aloof and pretty much non existent. There were a few different hot cross buns: the normal one, choc macadamia and hazelnut. Tried the praised croissant too. They were all served cold, not toasted, without butter. Disappointed to say that they are flavourless. Not sweet, which is good but tasteless. The atmosphere was not very pleasant either- a little stark.
A little bit on the pricey side, but all of their baked goods looks fresh and delicious. The croissants was fresh, crispy and just right. It had a crispy outer layer and soft fluffy interior along with delicious melted cheese and free range ham. Just make sure you order it warm.
I also ordered coffee with it which was the perfect combination on the weekend. They also serve sandwiches as well. They can get very busy on weekends and not as busy on the weekdays with plenty of seats inside and out.
While half the world eschews carbs and gluten, the other hand chases new bakeries with fetishistic passion! This is a bakery with a difference- Gontran Cherrier travelled the world looking for interesting and tasty things to add to traditional recipes. The French sticks are delightful but better still, come for breakfast. The food is delicious, the atmosphere slightly lacking in warmth but the food more than makes up for it. Try the Yuzu tart! It's amazing!
