A woman walks into a bar, and two minutes later, she’s got her favourite Japanese beer in a can – Yona Yona Pale Ale ($11) - in hand, watching B-grade film clips, while casually eyeing off a diverse crowd venturing behind back-lit rice paper screens. Knocking back highballs of Yamazaki Distillers Reserve ($12) lengthened with Amaro, orange blossom and soda she is left with the impression that this bar is a place where amazing shi t happens, and that’s not just because it’s outside the Lockout Zone.
We booked this place 2 weeks in advance and the manager sent my friend multiple crazy emails getting her to confirm her booking several times + making sure she was aware of all their rules etc. which was annoying but we dealt with it. We finally get there after dinner and the bouncer rejects one of our friends with zero explanation and then to make sure we definitely couldn't get in tells the manager that our friend was swearing at him (completely untrue) and the manager then rejects us for giving the bouncer 'attitude'. This was absolutely horrendous given the effort we went through to get the booking in the first place. POOR FORM. Will not be coming back.
What an awesome place. You know you're in for a good deal when there is a big line waiting to get in by 6pm on a friday. In the moments that it did get really busy, we had gotten a karoake room booked so we were able to escape there for some fun. The fried chicken that I ordered was delicious. Best part for me were the comic book walls in the bathroom!
J’adore Goros and everything that it is. I went to the opening night of this place back when it was extremely unknown and they were persuading people to come down on the streets of Pitt St. It must’ve just been myself, a friend and another group of three in there but we were still impressed and the staff were awesome at introducing us to everything Goros has to offer. I hear they had another opening a few months later which drew a much bigger crowd. Anyway, there are so many different areas in this place so you can find somewhere that suits; sit next to the giant cuddly Garfield, in the sunken private dining area, over karaoke or outside. Order one of everything on the menu because it’s all pretty great Japanese themed bar food. You really have to go here to experience the charm of the place.
