Gourmet House Chinese Restaurant

My father is a Hahndorf local and suggested we order from the Thai side of the menu due to a previous positive experience. We ordered a Thai Chicken curry, Mee Goreng, Steamed Barramundi and Laksa soup for take away.

The Laksa was half decent, a reasonable amount of spice and flavour. The rest were awful. Completely lacking in the freshness and spice that I expect from Thai food.

My father told us that they do have a really good chef who works there but must have had the night off because I believe the kitchen hand cooked our meal.

I will not be giving Gourmet House Chinese Restuarant another oportunity.

The chefs are very creative and often come out with new food choices, there is always something surprise you every time you visit.

The last review nearly put me off but we had a Living Social deal to redeem so went anyway. I'm happy to say it really is pretty good! Including the Honey Chicken which was one of the better examples I've actually had. While it may not be spectacular it's certainly decent food and the waitress we had was lovely. Well worth a try if your in the mood for Chinese in Hahndorf for whatever reason.

The fried rice was gluggy and dripping with oil, The honey chicken was batter and a tasteless sauce. The combination cow mein had red uncooked meat in it and the salt and pepper squid was soggy and rubbery. We hardly ever eat out, and you cannot believe how very, very disappointing it was to spend $50 on these food. We thought we would give this place a fair go.

Our family had our parent's diamond wedding anniversary here and we had the best night. We had the banquet meal and one vegetarian meal and the food was lovely and the service excellent. Highly recommended for a relaxing evening with family and friends. Staff very helpful and added some nice touches to their customer service.
