A Hidden gem in the depths of Martin place in the CBD of Sydney is the GPO cheese room. Enter via the old post office building, head down the stairs and you will find your cheese wonderland. There is a nicely set dining room to the right, where you can enjoy your selections in sophisticated comfort. The staff are very attentive, filling your water glass and providing great ...read more
Great atmosphere - we sat in the tunnel on the side which had great ambiance. The staff were professional and friendly - they really seem to enjoy their work. Even though we were off to the side we were not forgotten. Great menu (with obviously a cheese focus) but we couldn't go past the truffle cheese fondue - a pot of melty cheese goodness with loads of yumminess to dip into it.
It's fancy, it's tasty, the service is good and the ambiance is nice. Personally I had trouble justifying the price hike and would probably usually rather pay less for more equally nice things at a slightly more casualplace a tad further from MArtin place. But if money is no object, everything else about this place is good.
Loved this plae. Yes its a bit expensive - however well worth the splurge once in a while. The cheese fondue came a an awesome variety of dates, garlic prawns, to go perfectly with the cheese fondue. Would have liked the consistency of each thing to be in four's rather than three's as it is a sharing platter for two. Other than that, great ambience and the wine is recommended based on chosen platter.
