GPO Melbourne Retail Centre
To describe the GPO as trés chic does not even begin to cut it. This is a shopping mecca where fashionistas come to worship. Housed in the bright, white arches of the historic Melbourne General Post Office, the GPO is all about fashion and food of serious sophistication. One of the most beautiful retail centres I have been too, this place is more than a regular shopping centre.
Melbourne have done a great job at incorporating the old into a new and huge shopping centre which can be your one-stop destination. The place is so big you can't miss it, but if you're struggling, look for the massive H&M in the middle of the city.
One of the best things about this place is you can still find great food and coffee choices, which is rare in shopping precincts.
GPO was a post office in the heart of the CBD until fire destroyed the inside of the building in 2001. It used to be a favourite city post office of mine. The interior has been rebuilt and function as a shopping centre housing well known labels and boutiques, cafes and restaurants. The building is in the heritage list and is a marvel inside and out. Charming every time we are there, beautiful ambiance, always impressive.
