Took my Peugeot 508 to Grace Mechanics for a blue slip inspection, the inspection took around 30 minutes with the car on the lift the whole time. It failed on 2 oil leaks: a CV seal and a rear main bearing seal.. The quote came to $2159, $1704 of which was for the rear main seal itself. I decided to throw some stop leak in the engine and run it for 5 hours. Got a local quote for the CV seal which came back 20% cheaper than Grace. I mentioned the rear main bearing seal fail to the mechanic and what I’d done and asked him to make sure the stop leak had worked. When I picked the car up my mechanic told me the rear main seal was okay and had never leaked in the first place. He showed me a picture of the area before he’d cleaned up which showed that area was dry. I mentioned all this to Grace when I returned for the re-test and got fobbed off, they eventually apologised and admitted they may have made a mistake.
