Grand Central Hotel

Brisbane's 'Dining Car' harks back to the lost era in which luxury steam trains dominated the travel market. The Victorian themed restaurant comes complete authentic leather backed seating booths, dark wooden paneling and skirting boards.

The contemporary Australian menu offers diners an extensive selection of both hot and cold lunch and dinners, and includes a rotisserie that roasts two different meats each day. Dine in style, book a ticket... I mean table... on the 'Dining Car' today.

Forget shiny bar facelifts, the Grand Central Hotel oozes oldstyle pub charm. The colonial decor shows off Brisbane’s history and you can take it in while you dine from a bar menu a little more exotic than the usual. The Platform Bar has close up views of trains arriving at Central

On a cold wet night when I didn't want to walk far I slipped in here and felt like I'd moved back in time. This was mostly good, although I seriously wonder why they had a VCR playing very scratchy tapes of 80's dance music on their TV - I don't think it added anything to the atmosphere. However the vibe all up was good, especially in the newer part of the bar.
The prices were really good, mostly regular pub grub and I had a steak that was ridiculously cheap while being genuinely tasty and a good size. The bar staff were friendly and the choice of drinks was wide. Unfortunately for some bizarre reason they couldn't open a tab for me - I've very rarely been at a pub where they won't.

All I can say is that this is a pretty ordinary pub located inside the Brisbane Central Station. Basically it has everything that you would expect from a standard pub: Pokie machines, a restaurant, a sports bar, and an outdoor area for smokers. However they don't have a beer garden (you can't eat food in the outdoor area, despite it having a good view over Anzac Square). I can't say that I was all that enthralled with this place, though it is conveniently located adjacent the city railway station. It is sort of one of those places where you can stop by on your way home from work for a beer, and maybe a meal, however, once again, there are so many other places in the city where you can have a meal that it might be best to give this place a miss.

It's a great place to have a work lunch, the menu is good and it's cool to look in and see the trains but to be honest when you go with a big group of people there's always a mistake with at least one meal!!

Grand Central is a good place to get craft beer and a reasonable atmosphere.
The food while usually excellent, is somewhat expensive when compared to the myriad of choices in the area. The bar staff at times can easily overlook waiting patrons though and this is something that they do need to work on.

If you want a decent beer, it's a good place to go. If you're after an affordable meal, there are other places nearby that won't break the bank.
