The first thought that went through my mind as I came up to this pub was that the outside needed an intense makeover. Actually, it needed much more than a makeover because, well, the paint on much of the walls was rapidly falling off. It is also a large pub, and I sometimes wonder what is in the upper two levels and whether they are actually occupied (it turns out that there is a function room up there). Looking at it I wonder if much of it is empty. However, I should make mention of the pub. Well, the first time I was there it was understaffed, though I have been there a few times since and the staffing levels were okay. The meals are okay, though as is typical there is little choice on the menu, and they are priced about average. There is an outdoor area, but the first time I was there kids running around it, however it was an okay pub, but not one that I am going to go out of my way to visit (unless of course my friends end up going there).
Awesome hotel for a few beers, tapas and a meal. Love the original old exterior of the Grand View Hotel. The inside has been updated & renovated really well. Great service, friendly waiters, good prices. Tapas is around $9/dish with great options. Lamb, pork belly, calamari, etc-
Sunday afternoons from 4pm is a Spanish afternoon with paella, drinks & music.
I'll definitely go back next time I'm visiting.
Went to the Grand View last night for the first time with 17 family members for a birthday dinner. I must confess I was a bit hesitant as to whether the pub could cater for such a large group, well there was no need to worry, Antonio the owner who I met, and his staff were fantastic. Now for the food, I ordered the Flathead tails which were very good and plenty of them I think around 6 pieces with excellent chips with aioli, My wife ordered the hamburger which was up there with Neil Perry's Rock pool burger. All meals came out hot and nice timing, not too fast. The mixed tapas was a great starter with a good variety of produce. Prices were reasonable, good servings, fantastic staff and something you don't see too often in local pubs was table service for both the food and the drinks. As a group of discerning wine drinkers we liked the choices of wines which whilst small, was all vineyards from respected regions with little or none of the big boys on the list. The only ...read more
