Great Northern Hotel

This pub was actually pretty nice, even though it is a little out of the way, at least where public transport is concerned. Still, that’s not really something to criticise the pub for because it is still in a pretty visible location, being on a main road and all that. It seems as if it has had a complete make over, and it certainly is impressive, especially with the large outdoor dining area. They also had a good range of beers and some very friendly staff. The other thing that I loved was the Australiana paintings that were on the wall, at least the old colonial style ones, even though they looked as if they were quite new. Still, they added a nice touch to the place.

Went last week for the trivia but the mic wasn't working and it was a disaster, the trivia is in amongst other patrons not in a separate area for quizzers so it's noisy with the quiz disturbing diners and patrons and vice versa. So having no mic ...
Despite this we decided to give it another try, thinking it couldn't be worse, well it could and it was to the point of being farcical. The Mic again was not working and the Trivia guys were late so we listened to testing testing 123 for 30 minutes. A large table of people sitting in front of the mic were trying to have dinner for a special occasion, it would have been awful for them. Especially when there is an area available at the rear of the pub where a quiz could be held.
The service from the bar and restaurant was really slow and so we left after an hour really disgusted, Having a working Mic isn't exactly rocket science ...read more

Not my fave pub, it's lovely if you like sitting next to smokers in the outdoor area! I thought it was 1985, given that so many were smoking . Bistro food was so boring , I mean, haven't they heard that life has moved on since T Bone steaks...seriously needs to be modernised, not the decor ( very dark) but the food is so last century.

Quite like this pub, has everything you need, loads of space, poker on Thursdays, loads of beers to choose from at good prices and bar staff are always lovely. Food is tasty and nice quiet atmosphere.

Good bar, friendly service and the staff are quick to clean up mess and take your plates. Bistro serves food fast and its delicious.
