Greenfield Station
We stayed overnight at the Travelodge Bankstown and included in the room rate was buffet breakfast at Greenfield Station Bistro. It is conveniently located near the lift which takes you up to the hotel.
The atmosphere of the bistro is of being in at a train station (thus the name of the restaurant). The buffet breakfast offers made to order eggs (poached or fried) as well as the usual hot breakfast items like scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, hash browns, mushrooms as well as cold items like fruit, pastries, and cereals. You can also make your own toast and have coffee from the coffee machine. There were also apple and orange juices on offer too.
It was extensive enough to keep you happy without being over the top.
There's a certain grandeur to the usual hotel breakfast buffet this place offers as the high ceilings and archways that greet you into the railway themed open plan areas of Platform One Fine Dining and Greenfield Bistro. From the Departure boards, clocks and train carriages that act as private dining rooms, it's like stepping into a movie set. As for breakfasts for guests from the upstairs Travelodge suites, there are hot and cold options. It was impossible not to try everything - from the fluffy pancakes and james, to the freshly cut fruit and yoghurt to the usual hot breakfast with mushrooms and grilled tomato, fresh toast - so much to play with. They are also fresh baked pastries and lamingtons with a extra generous jam centre. One of the more memorable hotel breakfasts I've had in a long time that's for sure.
Came here for to celebrate a birthday. The only few things i could falter was the fact that the seating arrangement doesn't really cater for big groups we were separated in to groups of four. Secondly to find a bottle or can of coke was such a hassle, they don't sell it in the bar at Greenfields had to walk outside and look for a cafe which took me forever walking in a maze trying to find the cafe.
I had Portuguese chicken and it was deliciously filling (it was on the pricey scale around about $24 - so if you come to feed your family this place isn't for you) but it was definitely a delight to my taste buds and i would have it again next time if i come back.
The renovation of this place puts you in awe. Resembling an old train station, the theme and decor really does blend together well. You can either eat in the main seating area or find yourself a table in a redecorated carriage. Structured like your local pub, you line up to order and await with a buzzer to collect your meal. So many positives to talk about without trying to bore you. I even went here twice during my Sydney trip. On the first visit, I had the American beef burger which was priced very reasonable while my husband chose some salmon dish which I didn't really pay attention to as I was too busy devouring my burger. On the second night, he ordered the day's roast while I optioned for the lamb shanks. I don't think there's a need to mention the quality of the meals served as they were of a very high quality, for something being served from a bistro.
