Specialty Food
Gumballs
If, as a business, you think that its okay to give your customers three stringy bits of beef with gristle on it in a watery curry, smelling and tasting like chemicals from the handle of a burnt pot, then you should not be operating a business.
The hot food here is appalling. I have tried it twice. I didnt enjoy it the first time but totally hated it the second time. The only reason I went there a second time was because I was too sick with flu to be looking for a decent lunch and wanted to make it quick before going back up to work. ...read more
Terrible service, the worst service ever. I bought voucher from scoopons to get nasi lemak or other menu. I went there 3 days ago at 11.10am as it said its open at 11am so it best time to get it before lunch and they said they not ready yet untill 11.30 . The staff is so rude ,didnt even say hi or smile. Today i went there again and that staff still not even great or say thanks. They said NOTHING. They grab me food gave it to me and thats it,didnt say any words, what i got is only angry face. The food and drink is actually good but the service was zero. I bought voucher doesnt mean i cant effort to pay full price, its only 3$ cheaper anyway. I didnt ask food for free i paid for it so please dont be so rude.
After being impressed by their desserts, I decided to bring my friends to Gumballs to try their hot food offerings during group buy promotions late last year. We were very excited to try out their nasi lemak but unfortunately they do not serve nasi lemak on weekends so we had to settle with their three choices with rice selections.
Needless to say, it was not up to our expectation. The food, although edible, was not of anything special. The dish was not that hot and everything tasted kind of the same, no matter which meat option we chose. What makes it even worse was the fact that one of the choices was limited to skewers that we could easily make our own at home from frozen fish cakes and beef balls.
Nevertheless, the staffs were very friendly and attentive, although they could have been a little more prompt in addressing our orders since it took quite a while to prepare them even though they were ready-to-eat items.
As most of the food courts in Sydneys Chinatown are being upgraded to offer more modern space, they no longer offer the authentic Singaporean/Malaysian desserts they used to. Luckily, Gumballs take this as an opportunity and thus open their shops in the center of the city of Sydney.
Gumballs only occupy a small island space in the busy World Square, but manage to offer the classic Asian desserts with authentic taste. Sadly, not the same can be said in regards to the price, costing around $5 for a regular-sized dessert served in a drinks cup. Although it is perhaps the normal price in the new dessert realm, this still represent a high climb from those dessert places I used to frequent.
Gumballs also sell hot food for quick lunch options displayed on a hot bar at a perhaps more convenient price. It doesnt seem too appealing to my liking, although I would probably try their Nasi Lemak on my next visit.
