Gunshop Cafe
You guessed it, the site of this popular West End cafe was once home to a gunshop. These days the brews being turned out here have a cult following in Brisbane and it's especially popular on weekends (so it's likely you'll have to wait for a table). The coffee is decadent, the food is excellent (make sure you sample the home-made baked beans), and the atmosphere is great. Open from just after sunrise until well into the night (with a menu that changes accordingly), you can drop by pretty much any time that strikes your fancy. And once you've visited you'll quickly understand why Delicious magazine dubbed the Gunshop the best cafe in Australia.
Having heard that this place was always busy and a popular West End location, we popped in for a late breakfast on a Sunday morning.
While we quite easily finished our breakfasts, we were a little let down and were not that overly impressed with what we were told were the 'popular' choices for breakfast. The catalunya chips & eggs, cubano sandwich were a couple of our selections.
All filled with fries and really quite simple and nothing special unfortunately.
Saying that though, the service was really lovely and we had a wonderful friendly staff member to helped with our selection.
Of course, we are always ready to head back and give a cafe another shot by choosing different options - perhaps next time a lighter more fresh option may be better.
